Interviews + Conversations
Hosted, written, and produced by Julián Esteban Torres López, The Nasiona Podcast centers, elevates, and amplifies the personal stories of those Otherized by systems of oppression and dominant cultures.
Julián has conducted dozens of interviews and conversations for The Nasiona‘s magazine and podcast. Some have already been published, while others are forthcoming.
Julián is known for his trauma-informed explorations of our humanity. Julián and his The Nasiona Podcast guests examine existential concerns with compassion, care and nuance through a decolonial lens. These conversations investigate our dehumanizations, and our journeys toward validation, liberation, transformation, empowerment, redesigning, rebuilding, and healing… toward regaining authority over our own authenticities.
Julián’s engaging, in-depth, long-form conversations with experts, creatives, social justice activists, culture leaders, and change makers to critically analyze numerous topics, such as incarceration and prison abolition; institutionalized racism, sexism, xenophobia; immigration and diaspora; adoption; disability, chronic illness, and mental health; womanhood and trauma; systemic barriers of entry in storytelling industries; memoir writing; minimalism; being mixed-race; intersectionality; colorism; colonialism; conflict resolution; Third Culture Kids; Latinidad; multiculturalism; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and much more.
He’s currently producing a 10-part podcast series for the Women’s National Book Association’s Authentic Voices Program on women of color writers’ authentic voices, as well as co-producing an ongoing series with journalist and author Nicole Zelniker on disability, mental health, and chronic conditions. Both series will be out in 2022.
Julián’s interviews can also be found in culture and history archives and museums, such as the Fernando González Museum and Archives, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the Smithsonian Latino Center.
